Urgent Visit and Measure for a Packaging Machine.
Project Overview:
We were asked to urgently attend and assess a packaging machine on a production line that had failed an internal safety inspection. The line was currently on stop and they needed an urgent solution to get the conveyor running again.
Client Requirements:
- Needed an urgent solution to get the line working again.
- A fully bespoke guard to fit around pre-existing guarding and framework.
- Compliance with the customers internal safety regulations.
Our Solution:
The following day we sent an operative to site, equipped with offcuts of various materials, a hand router, jigsaw, bonding agents, welding rods and welding gun. Our operative arrived at site, liaised with the safety officer and came up with a temporary solution to get the line back on production.
The temporary solution included:
- A custom hand machined polycarbonate panel, for giving visual clarity onto the
line and impact resistance.
- A bolted on custom hand guard so the safety officers ‘exposure limit’ criteria
was met.
- A replacement panel for the crazed windshield, ensuring added impact strength.
Once the temporary fix was signed off, our operative measured the enclosure in its entirety, including new panelling, box section and seals and went through with the safety operative what improvements they required. The operative returned and gave the estimators the drawings as an urgent job, to which the customer had a quotation and lead time back before the end of play.
Result and Outcome:
Our customer planned to run the machine with the temporary fix until the new
enclosure was delivered, but decided to wait as the turnaround time was a lot
quicker than they expected.
By the end of the week, the customer had the new enclosure delivered, fitted and the line back running. Since then, we have done a full production line overhaul for this customer, replacing old existing guarding, as well as booking in to do annual checks to make sure the guarding they have is always in good working order.
FAQ’s:
Can you come to site and repair pre-existing guarding?
Yes! We can always come to site and evaluate the current guarding, but depending
on the condition will determine if we can repair it. If we can’t repair it there and then,
we can always either send fabricated components up for your own operatives to fit,
or remake/redesign a new guard.
How quickly can you visit our site if our line is down?
It all depends on when you contact us and your location. In urgent situations, we will try and visit on same day if possible!
Can you collaborate with other companies on site?
Yes! We have done this multiple times, especially on new sites. We have worked alongside electricians, plumbers, builders, shopfitters and safety contractors.
What is the range of guarding and enclosures that you do?
Quite a wide range! We’ve done everything from small overcovers and windshields, aluminium extrusions and guard doors, to full outdoor stainless steel mesh perimeter fencing.
